Spirit Offers Voluntary Lay-Off

In a statement released today from Spirit CEO, Tom Gentile said that the company will be giving collective bargaining employees in Wichita, Tulsa, and McAlester an opportunity to take a voluntary lay-off in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.“The news is distressing,” said IAM District Lodge 70 President, Cornell Beard, “It is not the news we wanted to hear, but for now it is voluntary. If the company doesn’t get the numbers they’re looking for, I would suspect to see a non-voluntary decision.I have asked the company to be more informative with us and give us a broader look at what the short-term plan is. They haven’t done that. I assure you, I will let members know what to expect as soon as I hear something.”
