Local Lodge 811 Honors Women’s History Month

On March 29, 2021, the Local Lodge 811 Women’s Committee, lead by committee Chair Sarah Monderoy Garcia, celebrated Women’s History Month by honoring the contributions women have made in their communities, society and the world. The celebration included IAM speakers on various topics as well as acts of kindness for local women in need.

Sister Garcia reported that Sisters from Local Lodge 811 and Local Lodge 2198 attended the event. Guest speaker General Secretary Treasurer Dora Cervantes spoke about the achievements unions have made for working women, such as equal pay through collective bargaining agreements.

Other guest speakers included Belinda Hawkins and Joseph Lombel, IAM EAP representatives who highlighted the mental health stresses caused by the COVID pandemic and resources available to members in need of assistance.

All attendees generously donated personal hygiene products, including feminine products, lotion, soap, tooth brushes, and toothpaste to be given to The Women’s Home. The Women’s Home is a facility that strengthens and support women who are reclaiming stability in their lives and society.
