“Blackout” Q&A From Kansas Governor Kelly

As you may know, on Sunday, the Governor issued a State of Disaster Emergency Declaration to address the challenges created by the severe winter weather conditions that are straining the electrical grid.

To reduce that strain, energy companies have implemented controlled, brief periods of power outages across the state. These measures are taken preemptively to prevent long-term power outages and could continue for the next 24-48 hours.

I have attached a FAQ document with some additional information on these outages, and would like to ask for your help in two ways:

  1. By taking simple steps to preserve energy within your home and office over the next 48-72 hours.
  1. Using your established communications outlets (social media, member updates, etc.) to help spread accurate and reliable information. Share information from credible sources like the Kansas Division of Emergency Management, the Kansas Corporation Commission, the Governor’s Office.
