Service + Solidarity Spotlight: Support Workers on Strike Against Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette strikers

Working people across the United States have stepped up to help out our friends, neighbors and communities during these trying times. In our regular Service + Solidarity Spotlight series, we’ll showcase one of these stories every day. Here’s today’s story.

The workers at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette are on strike and need our help. Many of the workers have not had a pay raise in 16 years, and they went on strike after their health insurance was terminated on Oct. 1, essentially resulting in a lockout. The newsroom workers, who have faced hostile and illegal treatment from the millionaire owners of the Post-Gazette, joined the strike on Tuesday. “It is a sad day in Pittsburgh when the people who write, produce and distribute what was once a great newspaper are forced to walk off the job, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has left their employees no other choice,” said Darrin Kelly (IAFF; pictured above, fourth from right), president of the Allegheny-Fayette Central Labor Council.
